Dysphagia may manifest itself through: choking, coughing, tearing, sneezing, retching, feeling retention of food in the esophagus, spreading, odynophagia (painful swallowing).

The dysphagia may be impaired swallowing solid foods, foods fragmented, fluid until complete inability to swallow.
